A new reinforcement method for the conservation of fragile, double-sided, printed paper cultural relics

Abstract Paper cultural relics such as double-sided printed newspapers and periodicals represent modern heritage. Severe damage embrittlement, decay, dreg generally occur to paper; hence, it urgently needs conservation restoration. Therefore, herein, a new reinforcement method for the fragile paper is proposed with cotton mesh adhesive PVA217 materials. Using computer measured controlled folding endurance tester, pendulum tensile strength pH meter, pulp viscosimeter, other instruments, physical properties of newspaper samples before after aging were evaluated. In addition, mechanical properties, chromatic aberration surface morphology simulated Japanese washi assessed. The experimental results indicate that this could effectively improve strength, durability samples. Widespread applications protection red revolutionary during Republic China era are foreseeable.
